Meeting 2

9.8.16

From the hours of: 5-7:30

This meeting was in the same day as the first meeting, but at a different location where photography would actually be taking place. I attended the junior varsity and varsity Mooresville soccer games at home. I used the camera from my mentor in order to take pictures of players on both teams. These shots included both candid and action shots which is what photojournalism is all about. Throughout the game, I struggled with the lighting in many of my pictures as when it gets darker you have to change the settings on the camera. It takes a while to adjust and get a better picture especially in the dark. In order to adjust lighting on your camera it takes a bunch of different factors. Sometimes it only takes adjusting the ISO, sometimes it is the aperture, and sometimes it's the shutter speed. Using prior knowledge about cameras, I adjusted my ISO and my shutter speed as raising the aperture would make the photo darker, and the aperture was already at its lowest point. Slowing the shutter speed would make it harder for the camera to photograph a good action shot, as 1/160 or faster takes a better action shot, but makes it darker. It just takes a lot to figure out in order to get a good picture! At this meeting I took over 200+ photos (not all of them are good though) and most of these photos were taken at the JV game because of the better lighting (the sunlight helps a ton). Ultimately, I would consider this meeting a success!
